How to Measure Your Dog for a Collar and Harness
Share
A size label such as L or XL is only useful when you know which product it belongs to. Two dogs of the same breed can have different measurements, and two equipment models can use different size ranges. Before choosing a Bestia collar or harness, start with your dog’s measurements and the exact product’s chart.
Start with the product you want to buy
Open the listing and identify its size chart, collar width or harness adjustment points. A collar chart describes the neck fit. A harness may list both the chest and lower neck. Measurements for one piece do not automatically select the size of another.
Keep the product page open as you measure. If it describes a particular measurement position, follow that model’s instructions. Our dog gear size guide explains the main measurement areas.
Measure the neck for a collar
Use a flexible tape around the area where the collar will sit. Keep the tape flat and comfortable rather than pulling it tight. Write down the measurement and compare it with the neck range on the listing.
Also check the collar’s width and construction. Width, padding, hardware and decoration are separate choices from neck size. A visually wider collar does not tell you which neck range will fit.

Measure the chest and lower neck for a harness
Check the harness illustration or instructions for the exact measuring positions. Record the chest and lower-neck measurements where the model requires them. Compare each measurement against the relevant adjustment range; checking only one can leave the other outside the stated fit.
Materials also differ. PawRuLLeR offers leather Bestia harnesses alongside the Bestia Dog Sport GripPro training harness. Read the individual specification rather than assuming every harness has the same material or shape. Compare our dog harnesses.
Check every piece of a matching set
Some matching sets contain a collar, harness and leash, while others have two pieces. Read what is included, then check the measurements of the collar and harness separately. The leash has its own listed length, width and hardware.
If your measurement falls between sizes
Do not guess from a breed label such as American Bully, Cane Corso or Rottweiler. Compare the exact ranges, and contact PawRuLLeR before ordering if the correct choice is unclear. Send the product name and the measurements you took. For a growing dog, remember that current measurements can change; remeasure before placing the order.
The final decision should match the actual product chart and your dog’s fit, rather than an assumption that every dog of a particular breed wears the same size.
Worked example: Maximus 2-inch collar or Black Giant?
The Maximus 2-inch black & silver collar and Black Giant collar share the same M neck range, but have different widths and size options. “2 inch” describes the Maximus collar’s width, not the size of the dog’s neck.
| Model | Size | Neck circumference | Collar width |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maximus 2-inch black & silver S | S | 35–42.5 cm | 5 cm |
| Maximus 2-inch black & silver M | M | 42.5–50 cm | 5 cm |
| Black Giant M | M | 42.5–50 cm | 6.3 cm |
| Black Giant L | L | 50–57.5 cm | 6.3 cm |
| Black Giant XL | XL | 57.5–65 cm | 6.3 cm |
| Black Giant XXL | XXL | 65–75 cm | 6.3 cm |
For a measured neck of 45 cm, M falls within the stated range for both models. Maximus is 5 cm wide; Black Giant is 6.3 cm wide and has black spikes. Check how the width and construction suit your dog rather than treating either collar as a universal fit.
On these two product listings, “Collar Only” is a collar, and “SET – Collar & Leash” contains a collar and leash. It does not include a harness. Check the selected variant and the current listing before ordering.
